Dr. Southard attended Haverford College, majoring in molecular biology, and medical school at The Ohio State University School of Medicine. He completed both a Pediatric residency at Columbus Children’s Hospital, and a Radiology residency at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and Fellowship training in Pediatric Radiology and Pediatric Oncologic Imaging at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Southard has won awards including cum laude society induction, Goodwin Cup for Excellence in Science, Pediatric and Radiology Resident Research Awards, and recently was voted among the Best Pediatric Specialists and Pediatricians in Dallas by D Magazine™, July 2002.
He has researched and measured bone mineral density and growth in normal children, and his data is used by bone densitometry manufacterers nationwide as normal standards for children.
He has been Section Chief of Radiology, and Chairman of Lab Sciences at Medical City Dallas Hospital, and has served on the Executive Committee, Priveleges and Credentials Committee at Medical City, and The Pediatric Advisory Board for The North Texas Hospital for Children. He is Board Certified by The American Board of Pediatrics, 1990, and The American Board of Radiology, 1994.
Dr. Southard is a member of the Society of Body CT and MR, Society of Pediatric Radiology, and Radiological Society of North America. He is an institutional radiologist for the national Children's Oncology Group (COG).
